Construction of eight new council flats has caused part closure of pavements in Castle Street and Maison Dieu Road

Parts of the pavement surrounding the construction of council flats in Castle Street have been closed-off to the public.

The council told residents they need to use the pavement on the other side of Castle Street and Maison Dieu Road for "public safety reasons."

Brightly coloured hoardings were erected this week to protect the public from the site work going ahead as part of the St James' development.

A DDC spokesman told Kent Online: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused during the construction phase of these new homes, which has required the temporary closure of a section of pavement on Maison Dieu Road and Castle Street.

“The pavement has been closed for public safety reasons, and will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. The pavement is clearly marked as closed, and pedestrians should use the pavement on the other side of the road.”
