Police save man from pier

A man who was threatening to jump into the sea from the end of the Prince of Wales Pier at Dover has been saved by police officers.

The distressed man phoned police in the early hours of Wednesday to say he was feeling suicidal.

The operator at the control room managed to find out where the man was calling from and alerted Dover police patrols.

Officers managed to grab the man to prevent him falling from the edge of the pier.

He was taken into custody so police could arrange to get him help.
