Police warning after icy road smashes

Police have issued a warning to motorists to check the weather forecast before making journeys today.

The advice follows a number of incidents which police have been called to around the county because of ice on the roads, including a fuel leak this morning in Dover.

Officers were called to the one-vehicle road traffic collision just before the Whitfield bypass on the A2 coastbound carriageway at 8.45am this morning.

A Peugeot car had come off the road due to a fuel and coolant spill thought to be because of the freezing conditions.

Firefighters attended to make the scene safe.

Blue watch manager Tony Northcott said the crew had to disconnect the vehicle's battery and throw soil over the spill.
