It is part of a Traffic Assessment Phase which aims to keep roads in Dover free flowing.

A statement from the port said: "The Port of Dover has announced that due to high volumes of freight traffic, traffic management measures have been implemented on the A20 at Aycliffe in Dover.

"The action is to prevent disruption to local traffic and to keep the road network through Dover town free flowing."

The traffic lights on the approach road into the town will signal when the port has enough capacity to hold the trucks.

The port has advised freight vehicles to use the M20 and A20 route, while tourists are asked to use the A2 and M2.
