The site, next to Pure Gym, was previously home to Carpetright before the store was shut several years ago.

Now it has been transformed into a £1 million modern practice, which bosses say will allow them to treat more pets and offer more services.

A spokesman for CVS Group, which manages the practice, said: “The limitations of our existing surgery has made it difficult to offer the level of service we want to.

“The new site gives us the opportunity to develop a spacious new practice with additional facilities and services.

“It is in a central location, easily accessible with the added benefit of ample on-site parking including disabled access.

“It is a modern veterinary environment whilst maintaining a warm and friendly feel.”

Features of the new practice include four consulting rooms, allowing for more appointments, and a bigger reception with separate waiting and kennel areas for cats and dogs.

There are also walk-in kennels for large breeds, an isolation ward for very sick pets, two operating theatres and an in-house lab.

The 3,800 sq ft facility is 500 metres away from its old home in Maison Dieu Road.
