Folkestone man dies on M20 after being hit by lorry close to Channel Tunnel

A 72-year-old man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M20, police have confirmed.

The incident caused long delays between Junction 11A (Channel Tunnel) and Junction 12 for Cheriton, after highways closed a stretch of the motorway shortly after 7.30am today.

The man, from Folkestone, sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a person being treated in the road and at least five ambulances.

Traffic was directed off the motorway and onto the A20 towards Folkestone as officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out enquires.

Circumstances surrounding the death are not yet known.
