Liam Daish has rubbished reports linking him with the vacancy at former club Cambridge United.

Reports suggested the 42-year-old Ebbsfleet boss was in the frame to replace Martin Ling.

But Daish (pictured) stated: "I have had no contact with Cambridge. I’m an ex-player but it’s just paper talk.

"I have got no control over what people write or put on websites and I don’t need to comment or justify it."

Daish’s present deal at Stonebridge Road runs out at the end of the season but he says there has been no discussions in "real detail" about the future, with the Fleet now firmly involved in the promotion race.

He added: "We had to cobble together a team but they gelled quickly, with the right attitude and good spirit.

"People have got to remember where we were last summer and the expectations are going up all the time but there is a still a lot of work to do.

"If anybody had told me, though, we would be where we are, I would have taken it."
