WATER way to mark 100 years on the river!
Around 100 staff from The Port of London Authority celebrated its centenary year at the Gravesend Royal Pier Road base with a specially-commissioned cake.
A series of events will mark the milestone including an exhibition at London’s Docklands later this month and a history book.
The PLA – responsible for the navigational safety on a 95-mile stretch of the Thames – came about in 1909 after congestion on the river began to get out of hand.
Special report and pictures in this week's Gravesend Messenger, out on Thursday.
