Delays on A2 due to resurfacing works between Northfleet and Strood

Drivers were experiencing long delays this Easter Sunday due to resurfacing works on the A2.

The coastbound carriageway of the A2 has been closed between Northfleet and Strood, and is not due to reopen until 6am on Monday.

At their peak, queues were stretching back to the M25 interchange, and affecting surrounding routes through Darenth, Northfleet, Longfield, Greenhithe, Gravesend, New Barn and Higham.

Waits of nearly an hour were being reported.

The diversion is via the M25 and M20, then the A229 back to Chatham or A249 to Sittingbourne.

Delays were also compounded by heavy bank holiday traffic, and an accident on the M25 near Sevenoaks which, along with a breakdown, led to two lanes being closed in the morning.

There were long delays on the clockwise carriageway, between Junction 5 for the M26 and Sevenoaks and Junction 6 for Godstone until around 3pm.
