Woman burnt tackling kitchen fire

A FIREFIGHTER has warned of the dangers of tackling blazes in the home after a woman burnt herself.

Green watch manager Lawrence Pater and two crews from Thames-side were called to a kitchen fire in Cecil Road, Gravesend, just before 7pm on Wednesday.

The occupant of the property had tried to tackle the blaze herself which had started in a chip pan, but burnt her arms in the process.

Watch manager Pater said: "The occupant was injured trying to fight the fire herself.

"She suffered minor burns to her arms. We would always advise people just to call the fire brigade and not attempt to put it out themslves. We would remind people to also be vigilant when cooking with a chip pan."

The woman in her 30s was taken to hospital by ambulance and the house was smoke damaged.
