Police were called following reports of an assault in which a woman had her nose broken at around 5pm Thursday.

Officers arrived, along with two dog units, and armed police arrived at about 6pm. The road was taped off.

One man, who witnessed the incident, said: "It isn't every day you see police with guns.

"You see it on the news, but not in your locality. It was quite frightening in the sense that they were police with real guns."

Pictures of the incident as it happened were sent in to the Kent Messenger by a reader.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and is being questioned at Maidstone police station.
