The Serjeant at Arms has apologised for allowing police to raid the Commons office of Ashford MP Damian Green.

The search related to an investigation into leaked Home Office documents, over which the shadow immigration minister was arrested.

Jill Pay has been giving evidence in front of a Commons Committee.

She has also criticised the police for their handling of the issue.

Mr Green said: "I'm glad that somebody has said sorry eventually.

"What's notable is that nobody - not the Home Office, not Jacqui Smith when she was Home Secretary, nobody from the police and nobody from the House of Commons authorities - have ever said sorry before so I welcome the fact that Jill Play was a big enough person to apologise."
