Baby boom hits toddler group

A TODDLER group is running out of volunteers - because they keep becoming pregnant.

Four helpers at the Scallywags parent and toddler group in Rainham are expecting and a fifth found she was carrying a child shortly after offering to help out.

Several other helpers have had to cut down on the time spent at the Methodist Church in Station Road, after giving birth.

Claire Parker, manager of the group, said: "It seems all of my helpers are falling pregnant at the same time. We could really do with some ladies to volunteer who aren't about to have a baby any time soon."

Suzie Barnes, whose baby is due in April, said: "I think working with kids means you start thinking about having another one yourself."

Corrina Stringer, 24, and Heather Olde, 23, have been pregnant at the same time before and found out they were both expecting again just three weeks apart.

Mrs Olde, who is 32 weeks pregnant, said: "We'll keep helping out as long as we can, and I'm sure we'll bring our babies here after they are born."

And Lisa Hughes wasn't going to let the fact she was four days overdue put her off attending the Scallywags fourth birthday party on Monday. She said: "I should be giving birth any day now but I still like to help out."

Mrs Parker said: "We are looking for anyone who can help at all, whether its helping clear up or making the tea - and if they're not about to give birth themselves that's a bonus."

Prospective helpers should call Mrs Parker on 01634 300996.
