Backing for village road safety campaign

Parish councillors are backing residents in the fight to have “dangerous” build-outs removed from a busy road.

Although Coxheath Parish council initially campaigned for the traffic calming features on Heath Road, they now say the build-outs - which block traffic travelling on one side of the road - should be replaced with other safety measures.

Around 50 residents attended a parish council meeting on Tuesday, where they voiced concerns over the current safety features.

They say the build-outs encourage drivers to speed up in order to pass them before oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of collisions.

Parish councillor Brian Mortimer - also a Lib Dem ward councillor for Coxheath - said they were expecting Kent Highways to offer suggestions for a new scheme within three weeks.
