Curtis Weston is felled by Lincoln's Clark Keltie during Gillingham's 1-0 loss to Lincoln in League 2 on Saturday

Curtis Weston's second-half introduction against Lincoln on Saturday injected life into a flat Gillingham performance but it could have come at a price.

The midfielder was returning from a thigh injury but after coming on as a second-half substitute he was back having treatment at the end of the game.

He finished the afternoon with an ice-pack on his thigh and will now be monitored closely ahead of this weekend’s trip to Morecambe.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "Let’s hope it hasn’t worked against us. He could be out again and we’ll have to wait and see."

Hessenthaler felt he had to play Weston due to poor performances elsewhere in midfield.

The Gills manager said: "He has good legs in midfield and no disrespect to Benno (Bentley) and Kevin (Maher) but they are both very similar in respect to getting on a bit.

"We needed a little bit of fire and that’s the reason Kevin came off.

"He (Maher) is not silly and he knows it wasn’t a great afternoon for him, and Benno as well was sloppy with the ball in the first half.

"I was put in the position where we had to make changes to change the game."
