A 59-year-old man suffered horrific injuries when he was attacked and beaten unconscious in a pub beer garden.

At the time of the assault Ron McAllister, a chef, had been helping out at the Tudor Rose in Upper Upnor, near Rochester, which was holding a wake. His jaw and cheek-bones were broken in several places.

Mr McAllister, from Strood, said: "I have been left totally shocked and traumatised by what’s happened. I don’t even know when I will be fit enough to return to work.

“I have been crawling around on my hands and knees as I’m so battered and bruised. Everything hurts. My daughter, Kelly, has to look after me."

He says he is frightened to be alone after the attack that happened between 7pm and 8pm on Tuesday, August 15.

Mr McAllister is still visting the Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead in west Sussex for specialist treatment.

Medway Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the pub and seen the assault or who may have information about Mr McAllister’s attackers, to contact PC Nuri Sadik on 01634 884073 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

* Three people, two men and a woman, from the Gravesend area have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. They have been granted police bail pending further inquiries.
