Gillingham are hoping that Simon King can play one final game for Plymouth before ending his loan spell.

The defender (pictured) has missed the last two games for Plymouth win an ankle injury, sustained to the opposite one that has troubled him for almost two years.

Plymouth manager Carl Fletcher sent him back to Gillingham for treatment and said the deal was over but the Gills are confident that King can still play a part for their League 2 rivals before the deal expires on November 5.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler said: "He had to have an injection and will be available for that last game but whether he plays we will see.

"I spoke to Simon and he was hoping to be fit. He has done fine there and it’s just a shame he has picked up an injury."

Fletcher had earlier told the Plymouth Herald the defender’s time at the club was up. "He put in some good performances for us but, unfortunately, that’s the way football goes with injuries," said the Plymouth manager.

He added: "He wasn’t going to be ready by the time the final game of his loan came around, so it makes sense for him to be back at home rather than living away."

But a confident King tweeted: "Back this week for a bit of rehab, nothing serious, hopefully back to Plymouth next week for my last week."

King has made three full appearances for League 2’s basement side and started six games.
