Fire investigators are probing a blaze that severely damaged a vacant property in Thanet overnight.

Two crews from Margate and another from Westgate-on-Sea were called to the fire in Northumberland Avenue, Cliftonville, at around 8pm Tuesday.

The ground floor and first floor of the property were already well alight but firefighters, six of whom wore breathing apparatus, managed to prevent flames destroying the roof.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was brought under control within 10 minutes, although crews remained at the scene until around 10pm.
