Double triumph for Gorman family

THE Gorman family maintained their remarkable form at the Southdown and Eridge point-to-point meeting at Godstone on Sunday.

Following their three wins a fortnight ago, they pulled off a double with their only two runners which must be a record for this course, five winners from five runners.

London-based IT specialist Marcus Gorman is the part-owner and rider and his wife Caroline trains them. They took the Confined with Old Kilminchy and followed this up with Cape Stormer in the Men’s Open.

The Ladies’ Race was won by Millennium Way, giving his owner rider Caroline Taylor another six points to increase her lead in the riders’ championship. She is two points clear of Hannah Grisell.

Ten went to post for the Novice Riders’ Race and it was good to see the local horse River Bailiff hold off the strong challenge from Avalon Buck from East Anglia. River Bailiff was well ridden by Tom O’Callahan, who was riding for the first time in an English point-to-point, although he has ridden several in Ireland with three winners.

Tellem Noting took the Restricted under a good ride from Phillip Hall.

The horse is trained by Charlotte Marshall from Brightling and spends much of his time during the day out in a field with two ponies as his companions. He does very little in the way of fast work being cantered once or twice before a race just to keep him sweet.

Jenny Lord gained her first win as an owner with Jazz Attack in the Maiden Race.

Racing next weekend takes place at Parham, near Storrington, in West Sussex, on Saturday, with the first of six races starting at 1.45pm.
