Crofton, a consulting engineering firm, has picked up its second award in a few months.

It has been named SME of the Year at the 2013 Constructing Excellence London and South East Awards. In March, Crofton, based in Hadlow, scooped the Business of the Year award at the Kent Invicta Chamber Business Awards.

The Constructing Excellence awards recognise outstanding construction companies and projects that have delivered improvements in all-round performance through collaborative working and a strong desire to make a difference.

Judges said: “Crofton has great vision, leadership and direction. The business is underpinned by a sound structure which already has succession built in.”

Steve Hale, Crofton’s managing director said the award was down to Crofton’s strong growth. “Our strategy has been to achieve growth via a focus on training and development, as well as through carefully planned marketing and the appointment of a dedicated marketing manager in 2009. This has helped to raise awareness of the business, and to build Crofton as a trusted brand amongst engineering consultancies.”

Crofton is involved with a number of major Kent projects, including Three Hills Sports Park - the former Cheriton Sports Ground in Folkestone - and William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

The Constructing Excellence awards ceremony took place in London and was attended by more than 300 construction industry professionals. Crofton now goes forward to the national awards.
