An investigation is under way at Dover after 17 men were found in the back of an articulated lorry.

The alarm was raised early on Friday, June 25, when banging was heard from the back of the lorry at the Eastern Docks.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene when 16 of the men were found to be suffering from exhaustion and dehydration and one was taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford.

The rest are now being interviewed by officers from the UK Border Agency and the Polish lorry driver has been arrested and is in police custody.

It is thought the men are aged between 16 to 35 years old. It is not yet clear where the men are from, but they are all thought to be from the same area.
