Fire crews tackle warehouse blaze

Firefighters were called to a disused warehouse last night night after a pile of rubbish was set alight.

Crews used one pump to tackle the blaze which broke out just before 8pm in Commissioners Road, Strood.

It took about half an hour to put the fire out.

The crew were called out again shortly before midnight to a car fire in Longley Road, Rochester.

The fire engine was in the area when the call came in.

The quick response meant the fire was dealt with quickly and that heat damage to other cars parked nearby was limited.

Crew manager Dan Godley, said: "The steering wheel had been broken off and the radio ripped out. It looked like an attempted theft.

"Nobody was injured."
