A rescue operation involving more than 20 firefighters was launched after a person was reported trapped in a blaze at a converted barn.

Crews from Strood, Medway and Larkfield were called to the fire in Wouldham Road, Rochester, shortly after 4pm Friday. It had started on the ground floor of the open-plan house.

One person was reported to be trapped inside - but after an inspection of the property the missing person was accounted for.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 5pm. There were no casualties.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "The fire started on the ground floor and spread to the roof space."
