Parts of a Margate tower block were evacuated after a fire broke out in a fifth floor flat.

More than 40 firefighters from stations in Thanet and across East Kent were called to Arlington House on All Saints Avenue.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze started in a kitchen at 3.10pm Friday. They were alerted by an automatic fire alarm.

Initial reports that people were trapped inside proved unfounded and there are no reports of any casualties.
