A KENT Tory MP has joined the call for a formal House of Commons debate on what he describes as Tony Blair’s “gross misconduct in misleading Parliament and the public into the Iraq War".

Roger Gale, who represents North Thanet, said: “The cross-party group of MPs calling for impeachment is united in its determination to preserve constitutional government in Britain.

"They believe that the repeated, organised deceit that led the UK into the Iraq War is there for all to see and that the constitutional conventions of cabinet government and ministerial accountability have failed."

Mr Gale stressed: "This Prime Minister has sacked two ministers for breaking the constitutional convention of not misleading parliament. By his own standards he should have resigned months ago.

"A debate on the commencement of impeachment proceedings is the remaining constitutional way forward. We must make a stand or watch the democracy that has been fought for so often against foreign enemies subverted from within. The rules of constitutional conduct have been brushed aside."

Mr Gale added; "The cabinet table has been replaced by the TV sofa, cabinet minutes with e-mails and the facts replaced with ‘belief’.”
