Get writing Medway - Creating Writing Contest 2009

Have you wished you could see your name lit by Hollywood lights for a blockbuster you wrote?

The Medway Messenger and the University of Kent have again teamed up to offer aspiring writers the chance to get on that ladder.

Our annual Creative Writing competition has some great prizes – and who knows, the chance of stardom.

This year we are calling on budding writers to take up the challenge of writing on the theme of Time – The Historic Dockyard.

Your challenge – to use up to 1,000 words to create a world in which readers can lose themselves for a few minutes. The competition has categories for adults, poets and young writers – 13-18 years.

The judges will be Simon Levack, Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund; Sarah Lonsdale, a lecturer in reporting and writing at the University of Kent and Alan Watkins the Medway Messenger’s local government and Old Codger columnist.

The deadline – should you accept the challenge – is tight.

Send entries to Creative Writing Competition, Medway House, Ginsbury Close, Sir Thomas Longley Road, Medway City Estate, Strood, ME2 4DU. Please make clear which section you are entering.

They have to be in by Friday, February 13.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the University at the end of March.

The winning entries will be published on the Medway Messenger website.
