Gillingham face two home games in four days and boss Andy Hessenthaler hopes it will be the week they finally get their League 2 promotion campaign up and running.

A visit from Burton on Saturday will be followed by the arrival of Southend to Priestfield on Tuesday night.

Hessenthaler (pictured) is targeting promotion this season but with just one win from their opening seven games, they have made a disappointingly slow start.

He said: "We’ve had our settling in period and we’re not in the position we would like to be but we know a couple of wins can correct that.

"We need to use these two home games as a springboard and try and get back-to-back wins in the next two games."

Gillingham’s home form so far has been unpredictable.

They started the season with a draw against Cheltenham, lost to Lincoln and then knocked Shrewsbury off the top of the table a fortnight ago.

"We’ve lost one game at home and we must make sure we don’t lose too many games at home, simple as that," said the Gills manager.

"Burton will come at us. They’ll know we’ve had an indifferent start and look to use that to their advantage.

"It will be down to us to make sure we start right and get the result we need.

"We have put some pressure on ourselves again. We had a good result against Shrewsbury but then lost to Bradford.

"We need to get some wins under our belt and kick on. We can’t keep saying how well we are performing but not get results – we need to start getting results now."
