Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is hoping chairman Paul Scally can do some business this week

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has appealed to chairman Paul Scally to try and work some magic on the transfer front.

Stimson knows the transfer fund is empty but he met with Mr Scally after Saturday’s win over Wycombe and handed him a list of players who he feels can improve the squad.

Injuries have hindered the Gills’ season so far and with numbers still low, Stimson is keen to bring in fresh faces to addto his options.

Stimson (pictured) said: "Mark McCammon has picked up another little hamstring injury and will be out for about two weeks, so as quick as we get someone else back from injury, someone else goes down.

"I would love to improve the squad in some areas and I have mentioned to the chairman a few names. I hope he goes away and tries to do a bit of business for me.

"At the moment we’re young and naive, and at this level you can get found out if you are like that. It will help the squad if we can bring these players in because they are decent players who have played at
a decent level and want to come and join us."

Stimson is facing up to the loss of midfielder Danny Jackman, who is all almost certain to have his shoulder operated on, following last week’s dislocation. That will leave him sidelined for three to four months.

"He sees the surgeon with the doctor on Thursday and I think we’re possibly looking at an operation straight away," said Stimson. "That’s a massive loss and it’s an area where one of these players I’ve given to the chairman can play."
