The idea of a celebratory bus tour of Gillingham has been dismissed by boss Martin Allen.

The Gills need just one point from their last two matches to take the League 2 title – the first time the club have won a league since 1964 – but Allen, pictured, isn’t interested in an elaborate celebration as he targets bigger achievements.

He said: “Let’s get on a bus when we’ve found our way into the Championship. That would be fantastic.

“We have still got a lot of work to do and next year is a bigger test to get Gillingham challenging for the Championship.

“If I’ve got to get on a bus, I’ll get on a bus, but I knew we were going up from day one.

“It is not as if we have done anything out of this world. Everyone knew we would go up, it was obvious. There shouldn’t be any surprise.

“Let’s get this club back in the Championship – then we’ll get on a bus.”
