Gillingham striker Adam Birchall has joined Blue Square Premier side Dartford on a month's loan.

Birchall has struggled to find a way into the Gills' League 2 team after recovering from a career-threatening injury.

A knee injury ruled the front-man out for the whole of last season.

Gills boss Martin Allen said: "Adam has done tremendously well and really does need to play matches and with Robbie Findley arriving at the end of last week, this is the ideal time."

The deal between Dartford and Gillingham was arranged by director of football Andy Hessenthaler.

But Allen insists Birchall's time at Gills is far from over.

Allen said: "In no way, shape or form is this the end of Adam Birchall.

"After a long rehab and extensive training he needs games to play in before he comes back to join us and without a shadow of a doubt he will be in our team and winning us games."

The Darts are in action on Tuesday at Braintree and Birchall will be available for selection.
