Gillingham are set to take a look at prolific non-league striker Sam Newson next week.

The Needham Market front-man has scored 32 times this season from 31 appearances.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler (pictured) has already dipped into the non-league scene to sign strikers Danny Kedwell and Adam Birchall, along with Matt Fish and Ross Flitney.

Newson, who joined his current club from Stanway Rovers, also hit 25 goals last season for the Ryman League, Division 1 North side.

The Gills are set to bring the striker in for training on Monday morning.

Needham’s director of football Andy Gould said: “It is a great opportunity for the player and it would be wrong of Needham Market as a football club to stand in his way.

“If Gillingham are keen to take him we will then open discussions because he is contractually tied to us.”
