Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has cooled his interest in former Barnet striker John O’Flynn.

The recent arrival of Cody McDonald at Gillingham means Hessenthaler may not now have room to accommodate O’Flynn.

Hessenthaler (pictured) is now targetting a more physical presence up-front.

"I need another goalscorer but perhaps a different type to John O’Flynn," said the Gills boss.

"If we hadn’t got Cody I might have been thinking differently. We’re looking at a different type up the top than what we’ve got.

"I want two strikers who can score goals. O’Flynn can but he is too much of a Cody type. We perhaps need that physical one in this division. We’ll have a look and see where we go."

O’Flynn had recently been on an extended trial with Bristol City but they opted to let him go. He top scored for Barnet last season with 15 goals under the management of Ian Hendon, who is now assistant manager at Gillingham.
