Martin Allen admitted that he was on the verge of sending Danny Jackman out on loan before bringing him back into the team on Saturday.

Jackman (pictured) returned to the starting XI last weekend, having missed the previous three games, helping the Gills to beat Port Vale 2-0 in the top of the table clash.

Gills boss Allen said: “Jacko e has a tidy left foot and he’s a good player and I spoke to him the week before, with his lovely wife Emma.

“He’s a good lad and he trains hard and I told him that if I couldn’t get him in the team then I might have to get him out on loan to get some games.

“Then through the week he trained really well and I just had a gut feeling. I put him in and didn’t he play well?

“The door is never closed on anybody and I don’t fall out with anyone here.

“Jackman has been working hard. They all get treated the same and if they train hard, work hard and look after their bodies how can I possibly not give them a game?”
