Crocked striker Adam Birchall is making good progress on his long road to recovery.

That’s the good news from Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler, who is remaining hopeful that Birchall (pictured) – who has yet to kick a ball in a competitive game for the Gills after his summer move from Dover – will play this season.

"I’d like to stay positive and say yes, (he will play this season)," said Hessenthaler.

"He will be positive so let’s keep our fingers crossed that’s the case.

"He has got his brace off now and is very sprightly around the place.

"The physios are pleased with his progress, we won’t rush him back, but he is going nicely at the moment."

How much of a boost will Birchall's return be to the Gills? Comment below.
