Gillingham's squad strength should see them through, says Martin Allen

The loan deadline closes on Thursday but boss Martin Allen admits he may not be making any new signings.

Allen doesn’t want to disrupt things as the Gills head into their final six games of the season.

He said: “We have just been to Exeter, Morecambe and Rochdale, that’s three games in seven days and we’ve been unbeaten in those games.

“We’ve had loads of different players playing in those games. The team spirit and unity has been outstanding. So we need to question whether to bring in another player right now would be a good move. It could upset what we’ve already got.

“I don’t think we need any more players. We need to stick together and fight together and look after each other. That will take us through.”

And Allen is confident he has the cover right through the squad.

He said: “If you look through the squad East gives us cover to both full-backs and Callum Davies can play both centre back positions.

“Charlie Allen is fit now. We have Gregory, Allen, Frampton, Dack, Robinson, Lee, Whelpdale and Weston as well so we don’t need anyone in midfield. In goal, we’ve got Forecast, Nelson and a youth loan keeper from Liverpool, Yusuf (Mersin).”

Mersin – a former Millwall youngster – recently joined the Gills from Liverpool, where he had been since the Reds signed him in December 2010 for an undisclosed fee. He has played internationally for Turkey’s youth sides.
