Girl punched in hold-up

TWO foreign girl students were punched and hit in the face in a street robbery. The girls were with a group approached by a gang of five men and a woman in the early hours of the morning on Royal Esplanade, Margate.

They were told to empty their pockets. When they refused one girl was punched. A 19-year-old Italian man handed over a wallet containing £5 and another girl parted with some cigarettes. She was then hit.

The man who took the wallet wore a white hooded top. Another gang member is in his early to mid twenties, short and fat with short brown hair. He wore a pair of sunglasses on his head.

A woman with the attackers has long brown hair. She wore a red sweatshirt and dark jogging bottoms.

Any witnesses to the robbery, at 3am on Friday, May 24, should telephone PC Tristan Kluibenschadl, on 01843 222192.

* A 16-year-old boy from Cliftonville has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. Two foreign students were assaulted near to Dane Park in Margate on Thursday, May 30, when they refused to give money to a group of local youths. The victims, aged 14 and 15, had minor injuries.
