WHEN Keith Chegwin calls at your house with £10,000 for you, it might be a good idea to be at home.

That’s the advice of grandmother Caroline Jones after the former DJ turned up at her house in Barham live on GMTV on Tuesday.

Caroline, 47, of The Grove, had phoned in the answer to a question about television the previous day and was selected as the competition’s winner.

But when Keith turned up at her house to tell her she’d won, he found that she had left 15 minutes earlier to spend the morning with her daughter and grandchildren.

Caroline said: "I got a call from a neighbour to say that Keith Chegwin and a film crew were in the road and that I had won the competition."

She headed straight back to Barham where she found him and the cameras waiting.

"As I got closer I was getting really frightened," she said. "When we got there Keith Chegwin opened the car door, congratulated me and said I’d won £10,000.

"I just couldn’t believe it – I’ve never won that much money."

Caroline and partner Tony Dobson, 64, are planning to use some of the cash restoring their Rover Van Den Plas. The rest of it will be given to family members and spent on a holiday near Skegness.

The question she had answered for the GMTV Doorstep Challenge was: Which long-running tv show featured Captain Mainwaring and the Home Guard? The answer is, of course, Dad’s Army.

Caroline added: "If you make that important call to answer a question, don’t go out of your house for the next 48 hours!"
