A manipulative husband who brutally murdered his wife after he lost control as head of the family has been jailed for life.

Aminur Bachchu had previously moved out of the family home but his wife Lipi Begum eventually gave in to his pleas to be allowed to return.

In doing so, the 23-year-old wife laid down strict rules, which included Bachchu, 35, handing over his wages and being answerable to her.

Unable to cope with the situation, he finally snapped and killed her at their home in Hampton Crescent, Gravesend.

Bachchu, who admitted murder, was ordered to serve a minimum term of 14 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

Judge Philip Statman said the murder of Mrs Bachchu, who worked at Marks & Spencer in Gravesend town centre, was rightly described as vicious.

He said: "You have deprived your wife of her life and her right and joy of seeing her children grow up.

"You have also deprived your children of their mother."

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Vinson, from the Major Crime Department of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "This vicious and unprovoked murder was a terrible blow to a close knit family and community.

"Bachchu's violent and selfish actions have left two young children without their loving mother, although they have the support of a caring family and community, which I hope will help them through this traumatic time.

"This is a tragic example of how violence in the home can destroy a whole family.

"I hope that the significant prison sentence given to Bachchu will allow the family to move on with their lives and let the healing begin."

Senior Crown Prosecutor Alistair Dickson said: "This was a brutal murder.

"The defendant’s violent actions have taken away a woman’s life and caused trauma and grief for those who were close to her.

"Aminur Bachchu admitted killing his wife and the case was supported by DNA evidence linking him to the killing and being at the scene of the crime.

"It is particularly chilling that he has never shown any remorse for his vicious actions even though he has deprived a family of a daughter, sister and mother to two young children."
