Hats off to historic fair

A cavalcade of colourful characters dispelled the gloomy weather at Ramsgate’s Addington Street fair.

History was the theme with stall-holders and visitors invited to take part wearing costumes depicting the days of the early cave dwellers to the 1960s.

The Victorian era was favoured by many of those taking part and bizarrely, there were even a few people in gorilla costumes too, highlighting the plight of the creatures.

Arts and crafts, street entertainers and music were among the attractions which brought hundreds of visitors from around Kent to the fair, which is in its second year.

Adam Godslave, chairman of the event’s management committee, said: “It was a great day. Those taking part thoroughly enjoyed themselves and our visitors found plenty to entertain them.”

Money raised from the event will go to charity although it has yet to be decided which group or organisation will benefit, said Mr Godslave.

He added: “We are also seeking new volunteers to work with us. Anyone who is interested should contact our secretary Tessa Read on 01843 591608.”
