important.

A homeless charity has vowed to fight on amid
attempts to withdraw a crucial overnight service.

The Scrine Foundation Open Centre in
Canterbury is the only place in Kent where homeless people can stay
overnight in a safe environment.

But now Kent County Council wants to let other
providers take over the services. However, in a meeting this
week the Board of Trustees at the Scrine Foundation voted
against KCC's suggestion, saying it will continue to appeal the
decision.

The council wants to withdraw funding of three
of the services worth nearly £600, 000, including the overnight
service.

Terry Gall, project leader at the Scrine
Centre, said: "We get people turning up here from all over the
county and London.

"They'll go to a council and are told the only
place you can get a place for night is the open centre in
Canterbury."

A Kent County Council Spokesman said:

“We have been concerned about the quality of
three services they provide for some time"

"We intend to assign one of them to an
alternative, good quality provider, from October."
