Hunt for bike chain attacker

POLICE are looking for a teenage boy who attacked a man with a bike chain.

The 37-year-old victim was walking home along Cecilia Grove, Broadstairs, when he saw a group of youths tampering with cars and told them to stop.

The youths started verbally abusing him and then one of them suddenly began attacking him with what appeared to be a bike chain, hitting him across the back and arms.

The victim managed to grab the chain, throw it clear and pushed the boy away. However, the other youths then pushed the man over, causing grazing to his knees and elbows.

Most of the group were white boys, except the one with the chain, who was black, about 6ft tall, in his mid teens and very slim with short cropped black hair.

The youths then approached the man again, but he stood his ground and the group ran off towards Grange Road.

The incident happened at about 11.20pm on Friday, May 6. Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the identity of the youths is asked to contact Thanet Police on 01843 222033.
