Hunt for knifeman after bank raid

An armed robber threatened staff and escaped with cash from a Kent bank.

A man carrying a kitchen knife went into the NatWest bank in Larkfield, near Maidstone at around 3pm Monday.

Police say he threatened one member of staff with the knife and demanded another hand over money.

He then ran from the building and it is thought he turned right and headed up Larkfield Road.

The raider is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a scarf over his face and a peaked woolly hat, as well as a dark-blue sports top, blue jeans and black shoes.

Police searched the area and a forensic examination of the scene was carried out.

Nobody was hurt during the raid - but police spokesman Anne McCarthy said the staff member threatened was "very distressed".
