Drivers face risky icy conditions on Black Ice Monday

Drivers face icy conditions in parts of Kent today, after a yellow warning for snow and ice was placed on parts of Kent.

Snow and sleet is reportedly falling across the county, but it is not said to be settling.

Some injuries are possible from slips and falls on icy surfaces and there will probably be some icy patches on untreated roads and cycle paths.

Some snow is expected to fall in parts of the region, with 2cm to 5cm possibly settling on areas above 100m.

At lower levels a mixture of rain and sleet is most likely, with the warning ending at 4pm today.

A second yellow warning for ice will then be in place until 11am tomorrow.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer and more difficult journeys.

Meanwhile, gritting crews have been out treating the roads.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Ice is expected to form on some surfaces from late Monday afternoon and last overnight into Tuesday morning.

"There will probably be icy stretches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths with some injuries possible from slips and falls."
