I think the biggest difference between this season and last season is our mentality.

It’s something the manager has talked about to us a lot. He’s made it important for us to win every training match and 5-a-side game and that seems to be being translated out onto the pitch.

That’s not to say that we weren’t desperate to win last season, not least towards the end of last year when it felt like getting three points was as unlikely as me scoring!

Last year we were so desperate to win that we were sometimes trying too hard and that’s when you make mistakes.

We’re under pressure to win games this season but are a bit more relaxed during matches.

You can get too uptight when you play, because you want to do so well that it interferes with your natural game and you start making decisions you wouldn’t otherwise.

I’m hoping for some changes on the scoring front, too…

I got my first goal for the club against Plymouth last season and I came close to another against Southampton last month, when I hit the post.

The manager has told me I can go forward when I have the chance to but I need to be cooler in front of the goal. I don’t really know what to do sometimes when I find myself in a goalscoring position.

For the moment, Nicky Bailey is scoring my share of the goals! We are working well together on the left and it’s all about building up partnerships across the team.

Take the defence: I’m playing with three new boys this season in Miguel Llera, Christian Dailly and Frazer Richardson, and so far things are going well.

They’re all good players and they’re helping me stay switched on.

I talk to Miguel a lot during games – I wouldn’t say I’m fluent in Spanish but I know enough to get by. I can understand Christian’s Scottish accent but don’t get me started on Frazer’s strange Northern one.

The other thing that people keep asking me about this season is my hair – but I’m not missing the dreadlocks. Maybe it’s made me more streamlined?

It’s less hassle in the mornings but the winter is coming so I’m not going to shave it for a couple of months as it will be too cold.

It’s a big week for us, culminating in this weekend’s game against Leeds United, who look certain to be one of our main rivals this season.

Hopefully, we will still be able to bounce back from the defeat at Colchester when we go to Elland Road.
