VI WEST: "It is a terrific school that is developing all the time"

KENT teacher Vi West is a rare breed in the profession these days – someone who has stayed at the same school for the majority of her career.

But the reason for her 28 years at St George's Church of England Foundation School at Broadstairs is simple.

She said: "It is a terrific school that is developing all the time, the children are great and the staff is so supportive. Why teach anywhere else?"

Miss West, who lives in Deal, joined the staff after spells in large comprehensive and grammar schools in London. This July she retired from full time teaching and is sad to go.

Principal Keith Rumblo said: "Vi is an inspirational teacher and is one of the constant influential factors as we have grown and developed as a school.

"She is one of those teachers who really has made a difference to the lives of children she has taught."
