Kent spinner James Tredwell has spoken of his surprise at his England squad call-up for the final one-day international against the West Indies.

The 30-year-old off-spinner has been called-up to replace Graeme Swann with England holding a 2-0 lead going into the final game of the ODI series at Headingley tomorrow (Friday).

Tredwell (pictured) has five ODI caps for England but has not been involved since the World Cup in March 2011, although he was a non-playing part of the Test squad to Sri Lanka over the winter.

He admitted: "It was a bit of a surprise when I got the call on Tuesday night but they are resting three players and there are three places to fill.

"I’m in an unfortunate position because I have got Graeme Swann ahead of me and he’s been doing well but hopefully if I get the chance to play, I can showcase my skills and try to make sure they keep me in mind."

Tredwell has taken eight wickets at an average of 18.75 in Kent’s five 40-over games this summer and another 10 in four-day cricket, where he averages more than 30 with the bat.

Tredwell said: "It’s a nice pat on the back and it’s good to know that the selectors are keeping an eye on me. You like to think they are but you never really know.

"I just keep doing what I do – I’m not the sort who needs people pushing me to perform better."
