Joe Denly says his commitment to Kent County Cricket Club remains undiminished despite the club’s decision to withdraw their contract offer.

The Kent opening batsman’s present deal, along with that of Sam Northeast, runs out this summer but he is keeping his options open ahead of further discussions planned for June.

Denly (pictured), who celebrated his 25th birthday on Wednesday, said: "I am still committed to Kent and hope things can be sorted out.

"It’s not a big thing for me at the moment and is not going to change the way I play or go about things.

"We were all disappointed about what happened last year but have got to forget that and put it behind us. It’s about the new challenges."

Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford would not confirm the length of the proposed extensions but added: "We have been talking for a while since the offers were first made before Christmas and there can’t be an open-ended situation.

"Pre-season is underway, which is an important stage of the season and is not the time to be negotiating contracts."
