A jury considering its verdict on a father accused of killing a teenage love rival has retired for the night.

Ricky Mount is alleged to have killed 19-year-old Adam Beaney with a single stab wound to the heart. Beaney was going out with Mount's ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Alicia Stankovich, 20.

Mr Beaney suffered the wound after Mount, 21, met with him at Faversham recreation ground in the early hours of May 30 last year.

But Mount, of Edward Vinson Drive, Faversham, denied murder, claiming he believed the knife he had did not come into contact with Adam's body.

Mount's mother, prison officer Maxine Liddle, 44, of Lewis Close, Faversham, denied assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice by disposing of the knife and her son's clothes.
