The leader of Kent County Council has called a meeting with parents who failed to get the school of their choice for their children.

Disgruntled parents will meet with Cllr Paul Carter at Madginford Primary School, Egremont Road, Bearsted, on Wednesday at 6.30pm.

The parents believe the education authority has let them down by failing to give them any one of their four choice of schools.

Thirty five pupils are affected at Madginford and there are also frustrated parents at Roseacre, Sandling, Hollingbourne and Detling.

The number of children affected is more than 85 but campaigners believe the problem goes further afield and the figure is much higher.

Mr Carter, who has said he will do all he can to help parents, has called the meeting for Madginford parents.

Several other campaign groups have sprung up.

At Roseacre Primary School the spokeswoman is Jackie Colwell. She said: “I am just a mum concerned about where her child will be educated.”

Several parents, including herself, have threatened not to send their children to what they believe as unsatisfactory schools and to teach them at home.

She said: “We have all said we will keep teach our children at home but really it is a last resort.

“It might work for the short term but children should be in a school environment.”
