Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens heads past 10,000 runs but believes his game can still improve

Darren Stevens was pleased with his hundred against Glamorgan but still believes he has more to offer the side.

The 36-year-old all-rounder’s 24th first class ton took him past 10,000 career runs, having reached 150 wickets earlier this season and recalled memories of the 208 – his equal best ever score – made against the Welsh county at Canterbury seven years ago next month.

Stevens (pictured) admitted: "Obviously being 120 not out overnight it was in the back of my mind. One more session could have brought me 50 or 60 more runs but I got ahead of myself."

Stevens and Brendan Nash added 204 for the fifth wicket but both fell in the space of five runs early on the second morning.

Stevens said: "We batted well. The weather killed us but we also put down a couple of half chances – really tough ones but they win you games."

On his own season, Stevens said: "It’s going OK but I set my standards high and I’m not overly happy with my game at the moment.

"I was disappointed with my own T20 campaign as well, wanting to get the side over the line a few more times."

The latest draw dropped Kent to fourth in the Division 2 table, 27 points behind leaders Derbyshire, with a game in hand.

Kent face second placed Hampshire at Southampton on Friday.
